Monday, the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities held its inaugural NRA Teach Freedom Foundation "One for the Kids" Golf Tournament presented by AutoTrader.com, raising more than $75,000 to help area children in need.

The tournament consisted of more than 130 players, including Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Kevin Harvick, and was held at the Golf Club at Ballantyne Resort. Ahern Rentals fielded the team who won the charity event; second place was One Source ATM and third went to The NRA Foundation.

The funds raised from the tournament will benefit several area non-profit organizations and a portion of the proceeds will help support the children of wounded or fallen military members as a part of the Navy SEAL Foundation.

"The inaugural One for the Kids Golf Tournament exceeded any expectations we had. We were able to raise a tremendous amount of money for the children in our community and everyone had a great time playing golf while supporting a worthy cause," said Lisa Starnes, director of the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. "We're very grateful for all of the sponsors, teams and volunteers who helped make this a fun event that we hope to continue for many years to come."

The successful golf tournament followed a fantastic month of May for the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities. The non-profit raised more than $390,000 from events coinciding with the 10-Day Blockbuster of Racing, bookended by the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600.

Headlining the fundraising festivities was the annual black tie Speedway Children's Charities Gala presented by Sonic Automotive with nearly $340,000 raised. Golf cart ride donations, a VIP online auction, a Ride-of-a-Lifetime auction and a memorabilia silent auction in The Speedway Club netted more than $50,000 towards helping Charlotte-area children.
