Speedway Children's Charities joins NHRA in the Community program
Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) is proud to announce its inclusion in NHRA’s “NHRA in the Community.” SCC will be featured on the NHRA website as a charity recognized by NHRA for its contribution to the NHRA racing community. The honor will allow SCC to expand its work and fulfill its mission to aid children in need.
Speedway Children’s Charities is turning 30 years old in 2012 and the organization will commemorate the birthday milestone with a year-long celebration. Throughout the year SCC will recognize the impact its volunteers, donors and staff have had on millions of children over the last three decades.
Since the organization was founded in 1982, Speedway Children’s Charities has raised more than $47 million and made a difference in the lives of more than 11.3 million children across the United States.
In 2011 alone, nearly 1 million children benefited from the fundraising efforts of Speedway Children's Charities, with more than $2.5 million donated to 370 non-profit organizations nationwide for the purpose of helping children in need.
The NHRA has a long standing history of working with various philanthropic endeavors within the NHRA family. Currently NHRA is involved with Beat the Heat, B.R.A.K.E.S., Darrell Gwynn Foundation, DRAW, and Racing for Cancer Research. These charities provide significant contributions to their respective causes and their communities. Since 1982 Speedway Children’s Charities has been working to improve the lives of children and the NHRA thought what better way to send a “30th Birthday Present” to SCC than to include them in their family of charities.
“We are thrilled to join such a prestigious list of charities on the NHRA website” said SCC National Managing Director Tish Sheets. “We look forward to the increased participation with the NHRA to work together to help more children in need.” Speedway Children’s Charities has Chapters across the country based at SMI tracks that host numerous NHRA events every year.
