Speedway Children's Charities National Office hosted the 2008 Holiday of Smiles event much to the delight of the children at Carolina Children's Center in Concord on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008.  The evening began with dinner and a special performance by Nashville recording artist Damien Horne.

After sharing dinner with the children Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 M&M's Toyota in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series, made a special presentation to the children's home and presented each child with an over-sized plush M&M doll.

In addition, NHRA driver Doug Herbert presented the children with a Wii gaming system and the Wii Fit.  Phillip Crosby, formerly of the Buffalo Bills and San Diego Chargers, Mike Rucker, former Carolina Panther, Brad Whitford of Aerosmith, and Herbert also presented each child with bags filled with goodies provided by sponsors of SCC. Damien Horne also presented each child with an autographed copy of his newest CD.

Otis Spunkmeyer provided a cookie decorating station for the children.

Saundy Hutto with Speedway Children's Charities said, "Thank you to each of the Holiday of Smiles sponsors and supporters. This was our inaugural event and we look forward to making children smile each year during the holidays. Everyone involved was truly blessed by the smiles from the children we visited."

"Thank you all so much for a wonderful evening.  You really succeeded in putting a smile on our children's faces and seeing them so excited put a smile on ours," said Donna Bland, Carolina Children's Center social worker and activities coordinator.

Participating on the 1st annual Holiday of Smiles, Rucker expressed his excitement, saying "It's all about putting smiles on a child's face this holiday season. I'm happy to do whatever I can during these tough economic times to make a child's Christmas a little brighter." He then recalls his days before the NFL, revealing "Growing up I was exposed to families that didn't have a lot, so I understand what these kid's are going through and know how important this is for them. Seeing the excitement in their faces when we deliver the toys makes me more ecstatic than they are."
