Go Manny Go!
Speedway Children's Charities is excited about our partnership with Samaritan's Feet for the World Walk. We are honored to support Samaritan's Feet in their mission to put shoes on the feet of 10 million children within 10 years. Through this partnership, we will help raise awareness of all the children around the world who are without shoes.
On Friday, October 10th popular NASCAR driver Kelly Bires, of the JTG Daugherty Racing Team made tracks for Speedway Children's Charities and Samaritan's Feet around the course of Charlotte's Lowe's Motor Speedway-driving the newly unveiled Samaritan's Feet and Speedway Children's Charities logo car in the Dollar General 300 Race, part of the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Crew Chief Scott Zipadelli sat high atop the pit-box barefoot during the race and Kelly Bires drove home to an impressive seventh place finish!
On October 11, 2008 Manny Ohonme, Nigerian-born founder of Samaritan's Feet put his feet where his heart is and began a 300 mile journey - barefoot - from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta, Ga. Manny began his journey with a Barefoot Breakfast hosted by Speedway Children' s Charities at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Saturday morning.
Speedway Children's Charities and Samaritan's Feet extend gratitude to the groups, organizations, and individuals who offered generosity and assistance in making the Barefoot Breakfast and World Walk possible. A heartfelt thank you to JTG-Daugherty Racing, Kelly Bires, Fila, Sonoma Carolina, Vitamin Water, Crocs, Damien Horne, Lowe's Motor Speedway, and Speedway Motorsports Inc for their support and hard work. We wish Manny Ohonme all the best with his heartfelt desire to improve the lives of children throughout the world by giving them their first pair of shoes.
About Speedway Children's Charities:
Making a difference in a child's life is the focus of Speedway Children's Charities and we strive to do this in collaboration with the non-profit organizations we support nationwide. Individually, SCC's local chapters identify the needs of children in their communities and award grants to organizations that address them. Together in 2007, we awarded more than $3.3 million to over 510 organizations. www.speedwaycharities.org
